Sixty shades of something.

It's interesting to sit back and soak up the level of media attention surrounding Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James. TV channels, newspapers and magazines that wouldn't cover novels and their creators if JK Rowling jumped off a bridge are all suddenly running double page spreads and long segments on their shows concerning the public's new taste in fiction.

Of course, S-E-X sells, and if you can combine Fifty Shades of Grey's sales figures with a tale of yummy mummies rushing out and throwing middle class caution to the wind, indulging in a little light S&M literary browsing, you have all the ingredients of a great story.

Let's hope the mass media's new found love of the novel strays a little wider than one genre, and they cover some thrillers, crime, horror and science fiction too.

But maybe that's one fantasy tale too far!
